Anies Baswedan: Rates of Violence against Women and Children in Jakarta Down by 50 Percent

JBN.CO.ID ■ Good news was conveyed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan. He acknowledged the number of women and children violence in Jakarta fell by 50 percent.

"The number of victims of violence against women and children handled in 2018 was 1,769 people. The number continues to fall by almost 50 percent in 2019, to be exact 835 people as of September 26, 2019," Anies said in Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (10/16).

The data is based on the case release of the Technical Implementation Unit for the Integrated Service Center for Women and Children Empowerment (P2TP2A) which became a task force in the Office of Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (DPPAPP) of DKI Jakarta Province from 2018 to the end of September 2019.

Anies said, the decline in the number is the result of routine socialization to the public about the perpetrators of violence against women and children can be processed by law, provide protection and the community to have the ability to help prevent violence.

On that occasion, Anies Baswedan said that he had provided a free service from UPT P2TP2A, in collaboration with Polda Metro Jaya to handle victims of violence integrated in the Jakarta Aman application.

Efforts to prevent and reduce violence against women and children are also outlined in DKI Jakarta's Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) and Pergub No. 48 of 2018 concerning Safe Houses for Children and Women Victims of Violence.

Safe House is a temporary residence or a new residence that is kept confidential according to standards based on applicable regulations. Safe Houses are intended for women and children victims of violence.

Anies also expects the public to also play a role in the process of preventing violence against women and children.

"We need to expand this to the whole community. Imagine, our mother, our child, that is our brother (a victim). This is a matter of humanitarian responsibility," Anies said.
